When men are involved in their child's education, children perform better in school.

On September 18, 2014, thousands of fathers, grandfathers, uncles, brothers, godfathers, cousins, and other significant male caregivers and mentors will walk or drive their children to school to show their support of their children's education.

Read the 2013 Report.

How it works ...

  • Employers are asked to allow fathers and other male caregivers to arrange their schedule in order to accompany their children to school and help get the school year started right.

  • Men and their children should arrive15-30 minutes before the starting bell.

  • Fathers and other men should be welcomed guests at their children’s school, given a lapel sticker to show they participated, and asked to complete the sign-in sheet.

  • Some schools will have information and activities available.

  • Fathers and other men should go into schools only if school staff invites them in. Otherwise, they will leave after their children enter the building.

If you are a father or male role model, sign up to:

  • Walk or drive your children to school

  •  Form a group and get your entire community involved

  • Volunteer to serve on a planning committee

If you are an elected official, faith leader, school board member, teacher, volunteer, or work for a local business, sign up to:

  • Show your support of the goals of the Fathers Walk

  • Form a group and get your entire community involved

  • Agree to greet participants as they arrive

  • Make a contribution to support our mission year-long

If you are a school principal, sign up to:

  • List your school as a Fame Fathers Walk site

  • Encourage fathers and other male role models to walk or drive their children to your school on September 18th

  • Organize greeters to welcome participants to your school

  • If time permits, provide a hospitality room with continental breakfast, distribute information about school events, plan activities, and share with men how they can be involved throughout the coming school year

  • Report to us how many men and children, greeters, and other volunteers participated in the 2013 Fathers Walk

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

I am a father/uncle/grandfather/role male model. How do I participate in the Fame Fathers Walk?

Simply walk or drive your children to school on September 18th. If your school is a an official walk site, there will be greeters to welcome you, ask you to sign in, and give you a sticker to wear proudly all day. If your school is not an official walk site, we still encourage you to take your children to school. When you arrive, kiss and hug your children goodbye and wish them happy learning!

When and where is the Fame Fathers Walk?

The walk is at your children's school. Please arrive 15-30 minutes before school starts. Click here to see if your school is an official walk site and if there are activities/tours scheduled for that day. If so, you should plan to stay 30-45 minutes after school starts. If not, you can continue with your day after you drop your children off.

Do I have to register?

Registration is optional for fathers and male role models who plan to take their children to school. However, registration does help us with planning by letting us know how many people plan to participate at each school. It also gives you an opportunity to volunteer to help your school in planning and to indicate that you are a supporter of the event. You may register by clicking here.

I am a principal, PTA leader, or teacher at a school. How do I let you know what we will be doing?

The key is to register as an Official Fathers Walk site. Your information will be posted on our website. When fathers call us, we will be able to tell them if you are planning activities/tours and who to contact if they would like to volunteer to help.

Register before September 12th and we will send you stickers to give to participating fathers and role models that they can proudly wear throughout the day. Please note: If you do not register before this date, we will not be able to get you the stickers in time.
